Sainted, 2016

Sainted is influenced by the restrictions and oppressive expectations that women have learnt/had imposed from the doctrines and culture of Christianity and patriarchy. Using the Christian symbol of the halo, juxtaposed with the demeanour of a sado-masochistic dominatrix, the spirit conveys confronting anger, frustration, reaction and rebelling in a context of religious spirituality, gender and individual spirit. The pressures and expectations for women to act in a particular passive and polite manner (or spirit) is being reacted and rebelled against through extreme opposition which is expressed metaphorically (and possibly literally) where women, or the woman, is taking back control over the man; gagging and dominating the patriarchy.
